GeneralTerminologyHow to UseGeneralHow does TONA work? Once you sign up and add your friend's number, you will receive two TONA phone numbers:
1. Your Phone Number in your friend's country which your friend dials to reach you. 2. Your Friend's Phone Number in your country which you dial to reach your friend. TONA is about making an international call just as making a local call by dialing local number and also by paying local rate to your carrier. Through TONA, you can get yourself phone numbers in 35 countries so that your friends in these countries can reach you by dialing the local numbers in their countries. How can I make a call?Here are the simple steps to get phone numbers.
- Sign up by registering your phone.
- Add your friend by entering his/her phone number.
- Receive your friend's local number in your country.
- Add this number on your address book on your mobile.
※From now on, you can place a call by retrieving your friend's name from the address book, just like making any other local call.
How many countries can I call through TONA?There are 2 ways to make a call through TONA: 1) TONA-Zone, 2) TONA-Out.
1) TONA-Zone; You can make calls to 35 countries through TONA-Zone by paying only the local rates to your local carrier and nothing to TONA. 2) TONA-Out; You can make calls to virtually everywhere in the world by paying the local rates to your local carrier and a little TONA-Out rates to TONA (as little as 2 cents/min in case of calling U.S.) Do I have to download or install anything to use TONA?You don’t have to download or install anything. No headsets, no downloads, no new SIM cards either. You can make a call only from a regular phone. You cannot make a call from a PC. All you need is your current phone (fixed or mobile phone) and it is exactly the same as you make a local call. Just enter the local TONA number and press send.
Do I need to log in on the website to make a call? No. You can make a call only from a regular phone. You cannot make a call from a PC.
Simply dial the local TONA number of your friend, or call TONA Access Number in your country.
How will TONA use my contact details? We do everything we can to protect your personal information. You can find more in Terms of service.
Can I change my personal information after I’ve created my account? Yes. You can always change or update your account information after you login.
When do I need to use my computer? You need a computer with a live Internet connection to sign up,
credit your account and create a TONA number for your friend at the first time.
Then all you need to make a TONA call is your mobile phone.
Can I make calls from a different phone from the one that I registered with TONA? Yes, while you can make TONA calls from any of your registered phones, you can also make calls from non-registered phones by getting authentication with pin numbers.
When you use non-registered phone, you will be asked to enter one of your registered phone number and the pin numbers that you use to login to the web site.
Do I have to use mobile phone only? Or can I also use landline phone?At the moment, you can register up to five different phone numbers at My Registered Phones. The numbers you register may be landlines and/or mobile phone numbers.
Which payment methods can I use?Currently, TONA only accepts payment with VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Card, JCB credit cards.

Why should I use TONA instead of my current provider?Because TONA also provides you with "Inbound" service which non of other prepaid calling card service providers do. TONA not only provides you with the least expensive way to make international calls but also provides you with "Your" local phone numbers in 35 countries. This way, your friends, family or business partner can reach you by dialing "Your" local number in their countries. TONA believes in "Connecting the world by Local Calls" not only by "Cheap Rates".
Can I call emergency numbers with TONA? No. TONA is not regular phone service. You should always place the emergency call directly.
Do I need to change my phone company or network provider? No. You don't need to change any phone or network provider.
What does TONA cost? TONA does not charge you any fixed fee such as monthly or weekly fee. All you have to pay TONA is the TONA-Out rate when you make a call which is as little as 2 cents/min (U.S.). Or if you choose to talk in the TONA-Zone, it only costs you the TONA-Out rate (Usually 1 min long) before you go into the TONA-Zone. In most cases, it takes as little as 10 seconds to go into the TONA-Zone. From the moment your calling party hangs up to go into the TONA-Zone, you do not have to pay anything to TONA.
I live in New York and I also have mobile phone in London since I visit London often. Can you suggest me a smart way to use TONA?You can register both of New York phone and London phone on "My Registered Phone". Please, note that you need to activate each phone in the respective area by dialing the access number in both New York and London. Let's say you have a friend called Francis in Paris. When Francis dials your Paris number, both of your New York Phone and London Phone ring simultaneously. Therefore, Francis does not have to worry which number to dial. No matter where you are, Francis can reach you by dialing your Paris phone number. You can also use TONA in both London and New York. You can dial Francis' London number to call her from London. Or you can dial her New York number to call her from New York. In either city, you can reach her by dialing local numbers.
There is a very little difference between the sum of the amount charged in the call history and the balance. Please explain about this little difference. TONA-Out rates in Credits are actually 4 decimal points. However, it is rounded up to 3 decimal points on the web. Therefore, when you add up all the charges and subtract them from the balance, there is a very little difference such as 0.001 or less.
Login Trouble (How to login)
- First, select your country from "My Country" dropdown menu.
- Enter your phone number without the country code. - Number ONLY. No space, No hyphen e.g : Japan 03-4577-4600 >> Select "JAPAN" and enter 0345774600. - PIN Number is 6-13 digit number only. No letters. - If you have not activated your phone, start from the sign up page. Login Trouble (Browser Setting - Cookie, Java Script)
If you are using Internet Explorer, go to Tool.
==JavaScript Error== - Click "Internet Option" - Click on the "Security" tab. - Change "Security level for this zone" to "Medium" or "Medium-High". - Click "OK" ==Cookie Error== - Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu. - Click on the "Privacy" tab. - Click the "Default" button (or manually slide the bar down to "Medium") under "Settings". - Click "OK". - After changing the setting, restart Internet Explorer and access our site. TerminologyWhat is TONA-Zone? It is the Free-International-Call zone. Once you and your friend go into the TONA-Zone, there is no international call charge. All you pay is the usual local rates to your local carrier. There is absolutely no charge from TONA from the moment your friend hangs up to go into the TONA-Zone. What is a TONA number?The local TONA numbers you create are personal numbers that you and your friend can use to call only each other. They won't work if someone else tries to call you with this number. Using the TONA numbers you can make as many international calls as you like at local rates.
You dial Sofi's Tokyo TONA Number to reach her in Paris: +81-3-xxxx-xxxx. Sofi dials your Paris TONA Number to reach you in Tokyo: +33-1-xx-xx-xx-xx What is "Credits"? "Credit" is the currency used at TONA to make TONA-Out Calls.
User purchases "Credit" when sign up and throughout the service. Call charges for TONA-Out are deducted in the form of "Credit" from the balance. Rates, Balance, Bonus Voucher, etc are displayed in "Credit". When you sign up for the first time, you will receive "Welcome Credits" to try TONA for free. When you use up this "Welcome Credits," you can either receive "Bonus Credits" by referring TONA to your friend or purchase "Credits" with your credit card.
What is TONA-Remote?TONA-Remote is convenient when you do not have PC in front of you but you need to make a quick international call. For example, you need to make a reservation at a hotel in Paris but you have not or do not want to add this number on your friend's list. You can simply dial the TONA access number in your nearest city and enter the phone number of the hotel in Paris. Please, note that you cannot go into the TONA-Zone when you use TONA-Remote. Some other convenient features of TONA-Remote include Balance Check and Recharge Credits. You do not need to login to the web site to check your current balance of TONA-Out Credits or to recharge the TONA-Out Credits. You can do these by dialing the TONA Access Number in your nearest city.
How to UseCan I share my TONA numbers with other friends? No. TONA numbers are personal connections only between you and your friend whom you added on your friends list. You can add other friends on your friends list to let them reach you locally.
Do I need to sign up and create an account in order to use use TONA?No. If a TONA user has added you on his/her friends list and given you a TONA number, you can call this TONA number without signing up for TONA. Only TONA customers can create local TONA numbers. Therefore, if you would like to add more of your own friends, you might want to sign up. There is no subscription fee nor regular monthly fee. We are giving you "Welcome Credits" when you sign up first time so that you can try TONA for free.
How do I sign up for the service?Just click on the Sign Up button on our web site. Here are the simple steps;
- Fill out the Sign up Form including your phone number. - Activate your phone by dialing the access number. - You are done ! Your account will be activated as soon as you complete the process. I forgot my Pin number, what should I do? Fill in one of the phone numbers you registered with us at Forgot My Pin Number and we will send you a new Pin Number to the email address you registered with us.
What happens if my friend and I do not go into the TONA-Zone? The call is considered TONA-Out call, the low-cost international call service. You will have to pay your local rates to your local carrier and a small per-minute fee is debited from your account. We have very competitive rate as little as about 2 cents a minute. You can find the rate from the "TONA-Out Rate" page.
How do I go into the TONA-Zone when I receive a call from my friend? When your friend calls you at your TONA number in your friend's country, just hang up (while they stay on the line) and call back on the your friend's TONA number in your country. Then, you and your friend are in the TONA-Zone and automatically connected.
Do I always have to add the calling party on the friends list to make a call ? No, if you don’t want to create a TONA number for some people, you can call through TONA-Remote by dialing TONA Access Number in your nearest city and enter their numbers. There is a small per-minute fee for the calls. It is still much cheaper than normal international mobile rates.
Why do I need a TONA number to my friend? TONA Number is a local phone number. When you add a friend, we give you his/her TONA Number in your nearest city. This way, you can reach your friend by dialing his/her local phone number just like any other local calls. At the same time, we also give you your TONA Number in your friend's city. This way, your friend can reach you by dialing your TONA Number in his/her city. TONA believes in "Connecting the world by Local Calls."
How do I give my friends the new TONA number which my friends can reach me?When you add your friend, there is a checkbox called "Email my number to Friend." You can check this box to send the number to your friend by email. You can also call your friend by dialing their TONA Number in your city and when your friend answers the call, simply press the "#" key. Then we will announce your TONA Number in your friend's city to your friend over the phone.
How do I know how much I have been charged for a call? You can always check your calls at Call History. This is updated immediately after you make your call.
You can also check your balance from the Balance page or by dialing the access number.
